SYNOPSISS

Can you fall in love with someone you’ve never met, never even spoken to – someone who is light years away?

Romy Silvers is the only surviving crew-member of a spaceship travelling to a new planet, on a mission to establish a second home for humanity amongst the stars. Alone in space, she is the loneliest girl in the universe until she hears about a new ship which has launched from Earth – with a single passenger on board. A boy called J.

Their only communication with each other is via email – and due to the distance between them, their messages take months to transmit across space. And yet Romy finds herself falling in love.

But what does Romy really know about J? And what do the mysterious messages which have started arriving from Earth really mean?

Sometimes, there’s something worse than being alone . . .

REVIEWW
Wow wow wow. This was NOT what I expected. For some reason I expected something like Illuminae, two people being left alone fighting for their lives in space and falling in love. But it WASNT (it was still just as good as illuminae).
The loneliest Girl in the Universe follows our main character Romy. She’s the only surviving crew member on a space ship bound to colonize a new earth. But years into her trip, she finds out another ship is being sent to accompany her and she becomes fast friends with the captain of the ship. But soon after, transmissions come through of something being wrong on Earth, and everything goes wrong.

First of all I want to say how awesome it was that this was a book where they young female heroine does all the saving, she saves herself countless times and does so while dealing with massive anxiety issues. She’s a relatable character, who deals with panic attacks and writes fanfiction for a TV show but on the other hand, she’s never set foot on earth, and she’s been alone on a spaceship for years. Romy is a very complex character who can go from being strong to anxious in a blink of an eye, but to me this is really relatable as I can do the same thing.
Personally I found the anxiety and counselling rep in this story to be fantastic, which is something that is often lacking in YA novels so I nearly squealed with delight when I saw the positive rep. I could understand what Romy was feeling and it made me so happy to see more positive light on counselling and how it can help people.
I won’t speak too much about the other characters for fear of giving things away, BUT there was a twist in this book that I really wasn’t expecting and it caught me completely by surprise but that was the most amazing part. It’s been a while since a story caught me so much by surprise!

If you’re a fan of Illuminae or thrillers I think this is a story you should totally pick up, and it’s short at 290 pages, the perfect size for an afternoon of reading.

Until next time,
Sarah
